Japanese Institute of Sawtelle (JIS) News, Sep 2017

 

#1. Garage and Gift Sale:
Date: Saturday, October 28th, 2017
Time: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
Place: JIS parking lot
This is one of our fundraising events. Donations will be used for administration of the school. If you have anything to donate such as household items, books, DVDs, CDs, even clothing, please bring them to school (remember, these items are for donation only). Please make sure you put price tags on each item. We really appreciate your support.
Please send some money with your child, about 10 ~ 15 dollars worth of quarters preferable. We will have a lot of children’s items such as stationary, toys etc.
We are forming a committee to help organize our annual garage sale. Please send any items you can donate to your child’s classroom teacher. We will start accepting them on October 7th and continue through the 28thth.
Please let us know if you can help with the committee or during the sales.

#2. Halloween Costume Parade:
Date: Saturday, October 28th, 2017
Time: 11:45 am - 12:30 pm
Place: JIS Auditorium
We will take class photos with students dressed in their costumes. Please encourage students to wear costumes, especially older students. Let’s make another fun memory!!

Servings come in two sizes, large size costs $5.00 each and the small size sell for $3.00 each.
We always need volunteers for the above events, so if you can help us, please let your child’s teacher know when you are available to help.

 

#4.Extension class:
In October 2017 we will start an afternoon class for kindergarten students from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm. After the regular class ends at 12:30 pm, students will have their own lunch. After lunch we will have a story time, do arts and music, and help students with their homework.
There will be openings for six to ten students to enroll in this program.

 

#5. Recycle fundraising:
We will be collecting recyclable items the first Saturday of each month.

 

#6. Open classes and individual meetings with your child's teacher:
We will open classes during first and second periods (9:00 to 9:45 am and 9:55 to 10:40 am) on October 14th, 2017. After the open classes, we will conduct individual parent/teacher meetings in your child's class during 3rd and 4th periods (10:50 to 11:35 am and 11:45 am to 12:30 pm).
It will a great opportunity for you to see the classroom environment while your child is studying and we are expecting many parents to attend.
Information regarding the times of individual meetings will be posted by the end of this month, September, 2017.
